Discuss The Differences Between Two Models of Health and Healing as They Relate to What It Means To Be Human

PROJECT WORK PLAN

The two identified health models are the model for mechanical medicine as well as the bio/social model or psycho model. Whereas the former describes health as a phenomenon that is purely physical, the latter is meant to explain the desire to solve the spiritual and mental issues of the body. Furthermore, the former requires physical attributes like therapies such as administering antibiotics for suspected infections, removing an appendix for appendicitis disease among other illnesses. The given examples show typical examples of physical conditions that require interventions that are also physical as a way of curing or controlling illnesses. Such examples show no relation with the mind as well as spirit and also opinions of the patient involved. Scholars have described such a method as a mechanical approach of fixing a broken issue.

Research has indicated that there exists a very close connection between the mind/body and spirit with the physical aspect of human beings. Some psychosomatic parts of life such as depression and stress have to be considered as the best way of obtaining full healing of man. One of the direct example is the correlation between depression and diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. Such illnesses are very common and they are as a result of stress and depression. All these are mind related issues and not physical.

There is a correlation between the two health models in the sense that the spirit/the mind or the body helps address some of the physical issues specific for mechanical models of medicine. However, for there to be a complete process of healing, the two must be intertwined with an addition of spiritual and mental components. The addition of such components ensures that individual patient concerns of how they wish to be taken care of. Once the patient feels taken care of, they will feel comfortable and the healing process is hence faster.

Analyze Differences Between One of the Models Discussed in Part A1 and Your Professional Presence

Based on part A1, there seems to be a difference in what I believe in, in my many years of experience in my years of clinical nursing. All my years, I have stood ground that destruction starts from the mind. From the case discussed above, we have observed that even the mind needs a machine like physical tool to fix human issues. Through daily activities that I undertake such as considering the whole person while assessing and solving individual issues. In my working, individual experiences, feelings and thoughts as well as emotions, I have been able to understand how patients feel. A care plan that is customized is always therefore developed in order to satisfy not only the physical but also the emotional feelings of patients.

Another good example of what I undertake is screening for depression. The test shows possible depression signs and hence give the individual patient’s physician a higher chance o how to help the patient. Appropriate plans are therefore developed to ensure complete healing of the patient. In my working experience, I have believed that depression should be handled promptly without necessarily using physical means as the model in part one suggests.

Discuss How Your Professional Presence Influences Your Nursing Practice

My professional presence will promote care and concern for the patients I interact with. Being present makes one feel part and parcel of any difficulty patients may be going through and as such helps view their illness from a different angle. Presence will therefore improve service delivery to the very needy patients.

It will also improve the judgmental aspect in me as a nursing professional. In many cases, wrongful judgements are made because of lack of touch with patients. Maintaining professional presence will therefore ensure that meaningful judgements concerning patients are made and hence appropriate decisions are rendered.

Create Two Specific Goals for Each of the Four Aspects of Your Whole Person

  1. The first goal I would wish to accomplish is to have a physically healthy body.
  2. Proceeding with current exercise regime.

Discuss How You Will Achieve Each of the Goals Created in Part C1a,

The best way to achieve a physical healthy body is to have a diet that is healthy and also having frequent physical exercises. Frequent checks on my weight will also be important. Running will be the easiest thing as it does not involve resources. I intend to set aside some days which I don’t go to work and conduct exercises.

The second objective can be achieved through consistency. Exercising program is only good if it can be sustained. To this effect, I intend to get an exercise partner who can help me keep my morale. I also intend to identify a physical fitness facility and engage in a program that helps enhance consistency.

Analyze Two Direct Patient Care Optimal Healing Environments in Healthcare

The first environment is interpersonal element which entails cultivating relationships of healing which give a direct relationship between the social and professional interactions which help foster a given sense of belonging. Such environments also help organizations to heal which is needed in promoting patient centered programs.

The second patient care optimal healing environment is the behavioral domain which is all about lifestyle issues that are healthy. Such behavioral habits entail making appropriate choices about the diet to eat, having activities that relax the brain as well as ensuring that addiction is avoided at all costs.

Discuss How You Intend to Apply Self-Awareness and Insights Gained from Part D1 to Promote Professional Presence in Your Current Healthcare Setting.

Ensuring that professional presence is promoted through effective communication strategies. The best way to communicate is to listen effectively. I will allow myself to listen to concerns of patients and try to address them immediately. Procrastinating may result in lack of trust which is not my intention. Listening to patients is the best way to recognize the needs of patients and hence I will use my ability to avail myself as the best way possible of reaching to their individual needs. A good example is to listen to them even when they have lost a loved one even when I fear a topic of deaths myself.

Use of alternative therapies can be another alternative to reaching to the needs of patients. On many occasions, a continued way of doing things in a similar way may lose touch with patients. I will therefore employ new tactics of giving therapy to patients.

Jung Personality Test

Analyze your test results, including areas that may or may not align with how you view yourself

To a large extent, the personality test explains more of who I am more than it does not. The results show that firstly I am an extrovert person who is out going, energetic and action oriented. I am enthusiastic and passionate about what I do and think before engaging in any action (Singer, 2015). I am also a thinker since any decisions I make has to be based on logic and not just hearsay. My lifestyle is also flexible and spontaneous with an open mindset. As the test explains, my options are more open than closed in that I am open to correction and not a fixed mindset (Cooper, 2015).

The test also shows that I do not give up easily and if issues don’t work well at first, I stay put and try next time.  In terms of team building, I am a go getter but also prefer to work with people as a way of realizing a common goal. I am full of fun as the test shows since I do my duties out of fun, even if it does not go the way I expected, I do not make conclusions that all is wrong. Instead, I seek to understand why it went wrong and not to make wrong judgements about those involved. As the test indicates, I inspire myself and even dare to dream to achieve more than what has been set as goals.

One thing that I feel fails to align with my view is that “I think with my head rather than heart” as suggested by the results of the test. Over time, I have seen myself as a person who has empathy and thinks with both heart and mind. I don’t believe in doing an undertaking without attaching hearty feelings as the test suggests.

Evaluate how the preferences identified by the test align with your relationships, favorite activities, and career choices.

The identified preferences by the test speaks volumes about my relationships, activities I like and choice of career. Nursing career is among careers that need zeal and energy. A career that needs specific personality test that promotes self-motivation, desire to work for public good and with a self-motivated spirit (Allen, 2015).  I believe that the identified test well aligns with my desire to work for people without expecting much in return. I believe being an outgoing and fun loving person fits the nursing practice well as negative attitude may negatively impact service delivery.

Discuss Two Potential Challenges or Barriers That Could Be Minimized by Your Enhanced Self-Awareness When Working with Opposite Personality Types.

The most notable barrier that can be minimized by my self-awareness when dealing with people of different personality is barriers in communication. Firstly, I am an outgoing person who have a good interaction ability. I understand the need to engage other people in making sure that their individual morale is boosted. For individuals who have problems with communicating their feelings confidently, I understand the need to engage them in their individual differences by giving them a platform to express themselves accordingly

The communication barrier may also come up as a result of lack of clear channels of communication. As some organizations embrace top down or horizontal communication, it would do a lot of sense to first understand how to management team has aligned its communication channels and find the most appropriate way to engage all employees without necessarily considering their rank in the place of work. Since I understand how to engage people, I believe I have the ability to motivate introverts and ensure they communicate their feelings effectively.
